Eish maar hoekom Carsten?
The words in this thread are not in the dictionary.
I feel ashamed/lazy/sheepish every time I see M'Dava expanding the dictionary, but I console myself about my finest work on -Q-. It turns out the words are not in yet.

Carsten please enter these fine words in the dictionary. biggrin.gif

carsten- 06-12-2008
Yebo. Musa ukungisheshisa! wink.gif I forgot about it ... and it looks like loads of work anyway ... <sigh>

carsten- 06-22-2008
Finally done. Well, most of them at least (and many words were already there anyway). But I have some difficulties with the following words that I double checked with Doke's dictionary. Being aware of its age I'd like you guys to confirm/shed some light on these:

QUOTE
(i)Qhina -> baby impala/duiker, (ukuQhina ->plait hair)

According to http://www.biodiversityexplorer.org/mammal..._campestris.htm this is a steenbok

QUOTE
(i)Qaba -> to be rural/outdated

QUOTE
(i)Qhikiza -> a lady of age between approx.30 and approx.40 years (wild guess)

No wild guesses please. biggrin.gif What does this word mean exactly? "Woman in her thirties"? Doke says: "Full-grown girl" (which is somewhat different).

QUOTE
Qevula -> to talk too much

Doke says: "gevuza" (chatter, talk incessantly). Can we add "to babble/jabber/gabble"?

QUOTE
Qhetha -> when you are at your girlfriend's (parent's) house, living at your inlaws.

Doke:

QUOTE
Qhunsula (amehlo) -> stare (wide open eyes and starring)

Doke: "Strain (the eyes)"

QUOTE
Qhuzuka -> to trip over (aka khubeka)

I found "guzuka" with this meaning. Is "qhuzuka" an alternate spelling?

QUOTE
Qotha --> sit with knees up

Doke:

QUOTE
Qubula -> to lift

Found this one as "qubukula".

QUOTE
Qulusa --> bend over aka dunusa

Doke: "protrude the buttocks" (yes, you have to bend over to do that but it's a different thing).

QUOTE
Qunga --> brave through (Qinisela)

Doke:

QUOTE
Qhwasha -> homemade gun, sound made by a gun (more like Qhwakhla!)
Qhwayilahle -> unemployed man

As these are nouns, please give the classes (or the singular and plural forms).

I have no problem with that, it might be regional.

QUOTE

(i)Qaba -> to be rural/outdated

    * iqaba is not a verb. Could not find ukuqaba.
    * iqaba is an ignorant or heathen according to Doke.

Iqaba (n)
Ubuqaba (v)

Iqaba (s)
Amaqaba (pl)

QUOTE

(i)Qhikiza -> a lady of age between approx.30 and approx.40 years (wild guess)

No wild guesses please. biggrin.gif What does this word mean exactly? "Woman in her thirties"? Doke says: "Full-grown girl" (which is somewhat different).

I can live with “Full-grown girl”

QUOTE

Qevula -> to talk too much

Doke says: "gevuza" (chatter, talk incessantly). Can we add "to babble/jabber/gabble"?

This is the same thing, the emphasis on –Q- might be regional.

QUOTE

Qhetha -> when you are at your girlfriend's (parent's) house, living at your inlaws.

Doke:

    * Sit at ease, settle down comfortably
    * Sit at table
    * Stand aloof

Here I am not sure what to say as both Doke and I involve seating in the explaination.

QUOTE

Qhunsula (amehlo) -> stare (wide open eyes and starring)

Doke: "Strain (the eyes)"

e.g. Musa ukungiqhunsulela amehlo wena, khuluma.
i.e. Stop starring at me, talk.
I can still take Doke, but you can maybe expand it a bit.

QUOTE

Qhuzuka -> to trip over (aka khubeka)

I found "guzuka" with this meaning. Is "qhuzuka" an alternate spelling?

To me guzuka is more like huzuka, which is to bruise.

QUOTE

Qotha --> sit with knees up

Doke:

    * qotha: grind, pulverize
    * qhotha: stoop

Qothama is more appropriate here.
This is when you are sitting on the floor, with your knees pointing up (as opposed to the sides.)

QUOTE

Qubula -> to lift

Found this one as "qubukula".

Phakamisa is a synonym to qubula.

QUOTE

Qulusa --> bend over aka dunusa

Doke: "protrude the buttocks" (yes, you have to bend over to do that but it's a different thing).

I was wrong there, “protrude the buttocks” is more correct/proper.

QUOTE

Qunga --> brave through (Qinisela)

Doke:

    * Discolour, darken
    * Invigorate, strengthen
    * Pour from a height
    * Brew
    * Encourage

Doke also said Encourage, which is what I was aiming at.
e.g Qunga isibindi Carsten.Be brave carsten.

QUOTE

Qhwasha -> homemade gun, sound made by a gun (more like Qhwakhla!)
Qhwayilahle -> unemployed man

As these are nouns, please give the classes (or the singular and plural forms).
